The Continental Grand Prix Folding Road Tyre is ingrained in cycle racing history. In the late eighties, it heralded the triumphant entry of the modern racing bike 'clincher' and is today a synonym for quality and performance. This latest incarnation shines thanks to a PolyX Breaker layer in the casing and a BlackChili Compound with an impressive combination of puncture protection, easy running, durability and grip.
PolyX Breaker Technology
With their PolyX Breaker, Continental bring PKW know-how to the bike tyre arena – Polyester has been used successfully for years in car tyres and been tried and tested many times. The extremely resistant polyester fibre is woven tightly crosswire making a very high fabric density which not only makes the Breaker more resistant to foreign objects, but is also resistant to punctures. The rolling resistance is not effected either by the PolyX Breaker.
Continental refine newly developed synthetic rubbers with natural rubber with the proven high-performance tread compound. They use these rubbers with special nanometric carbon soot particles, which are optimized in shape and surface properties for best uses for the intended tyre. BlackChili Compound reaches an unprecedented of performance. Tyres with BlackChili Compound reach an unprecedented level of performance. Compared to the previous best Activated Silica Compound, BlackChili tyres have 26% less rolling resistance, a 30 % higher friction value (grip) and a 5 % increase in mileage.
TPS TyrePositioning System
The narrower front tyre (22mm) provides reduced wind resistance and better handling. An adhesion-optimised tread mixture supplies the necessary grip especially for wet cornering. The wider rear tyre (24mm) offers better traction thanks to a larger contact area and at the same time more comfort. Thanks to the fast rolling, optimised tread mixture and larger contact area on the rear tyre, wear is reduced. The result is a pioneering front and rear tyre system for road racing – to be found in Conti’s GP Attack and Force tyres/tubs.
More than 100 years experience in the development and production of bicycle tyres has made Continental a unique company within the industry. Continental is the only German bicycle tyre manufacturer to produce its tyres in Germany. Knowing this serves as a mighty incentive to there engineers and everyone else involved in the manufacturing process to constantly strive for further innovations. In their technology and development center in Korbach, they are constantly developing new revolutionary technologies such as the unbeatable Black Chili Compound and the ultimate Vectran™ Breaker anti-puncture technology, both used at the top end of race sport. These technologies demand sophisticated processes to ensure legendary end-product quality, and these innovations as well as the new “ProTection” and ”RaceSport” technology for MTB tyres, can only be manufactured in Continental's factory in Germany. In order to offer the best tyre for any application, they rely equally on dialogue with professional racers, hobby cyclists and everyday bike riders. This results not only in high-end products for top sports applications such as the new Podium TT or the revolutionary downhill tyre “Der Kaiser”, but also tyres for everyday use like the new innovative combination EcoContact/EcoContact Plus as a companion to the latest e-bike trend.
